Biden warns Iran to 'be careful' in wake of Hamas terror attacks

President Joe Biden on Wednesday told Iran to "be careful" in the wake of a major terrorist incursion by Hamas into Israeli territory.

The raid saw terrorists from the Gaza Strip storm border towns, seize hostages, and inflict considerable civilian casualties. The Israel Defense Forces have since mounted counter strikes on Gaza in preparation for a land invasion.

The White House expressed support for Israel following the attacks and directly addressed Hamas's primary state sponsor. Speaking to a group of Jewish leaders on Wednesday, Biden said "I spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu I don't know how many times, but again this morning, and already we're surging additional military assistance to the Israeli Defense Forces, including ammunition, interceptors to replenish the Iron Dome, and we've moved the U.S. carrier fleet to the Eastern Mediterranean, and we're sending more fighter jets there to that region, and made it clear — made it clear to the Iranians: Be careful," Fox News reported.

Biden offered few details as to any actions against Iran, though both the Islamic Republic and the administration's interactions with Tehran have drawn considerable scrutiny in light of the attacks.

The administration announced in September that it had negotiated a prisoner swap with the country that would see Washington unfreeze $6 billion in Iranian funds frozen in South Korea. The deal attracted criticism and many Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, warned it would encourage foreign actors to take additional American hostages and that the funds would likely be used for terrorism.
