Earthquake rocks Northern California weeks after different strong quake

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake rocked Humboldt County, California, nearly two weeks after another strong quake hit the same area.

The earthquake had an epicenter approximately nine miles southeast of Rio Dell, California, at 10:35 a.m. PST.

Authorities have not reported any injuries from the earthquake. The California Department of Transportation temporarily shut down the Fernbridge on state route 211 to search for any damage.

The earthquake comes weeks after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake caused damage to the area and was blamed for two deaths as the result of a “medical emergency” at the time of the quake.

Several aftershocks came after the Dec. 20 earthquake, but it is currently unknown if Sunday’s quake was an aftershock from the earlier earthquake.
