'We Have Your Back,' Biden Admin. Tells Abortion Clinics while Launching Task Force

The Biden administration has launched a “reproductive healthcare” task force with the goal of advancing abortion rights across the nation and is telling abortion doctors and abortion clinics, “We have your back.”

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary launched the intra-agency Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access on Jan. 21 – one day before the 49th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide.

The task force will include experts from across the department and will have a goal of facilitating “innovative, transparent, equitable, and action-oriented approaches” to “protect and bolster sexual and reproductive health,” according to a news release. “Reproductive health” is a term used by progressives that includes abortion.

“We recommit to protecting and strengthening access to reproductive health care, including the right to safe and legal abortion care that the Supreme Court has recognized for decades,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. “Patients have the right to make decisions about their own bodies. In light of restrictive laws across the nation, HHS will evaluate the impact on patients and our communities.

“... Once again, we are telling health care providers and patients, we have your back” on abortion rights, Becerra said.

The HHS news release referenced the pro-choice achievements of the Biden administration, including its restoration in funding to Planned Parenthood.

The task force will be co-chaired by the HHS assistant secretary for health and the HHS assistant secretary for global affairs.

“Advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights is central to our core global health goals, including our focus on addressing health inequities and expanding access to universal health coverage,” said HHS Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs Loyce Pace. “In order to build back better in the U.S. and around the world, we must ensure that all people can access high-quality health care, including sexual and reproductive health care services.”
