Trump: Section 230 is a ‘serious threat to our national security & election integrity’

.

President Trump is amplifying pressure to revise a section of the Communications Decency Act that has shielded tech companies from liabilities they would incur if they were considered publishers.

Trump said Section 230 of the CDA is a “gift” to Big Tech before claiming the country “can never be safe” if it is not expunged from the National Defense Authorization Act.

“Section 230, which is a liability shielding gift from the U.S. to ‘Big Tech’ (the only companies in America that have it – corporate welfare!), is a serious threat to our National Security & Election Integrity,” he wrote. “Our Country can never be safe & secure if we allow it to stand…”

“…Therefore, if the very dangerous & unfair Section 230 is not completely terminated as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), I will be forced to unequivocally VETO the Bill when sent to the very beautiful Resolute desk,” Trump continued. “Take back America NOW. Thank you!”

Trump, who has battled overt censorship on Twitter during his four years in office, attempted to narrow the scope of the liability protections under Section 230 in September and has recently, along with allies in Congress, attempted to include revisions to the provision in the end-of-year defense-spending authorization bill.
