Pentagon shake-up continues after Esper firing

.

The Pentagon continued its recent shake-up on Tuesday with reports that President Trump has appointed Kash Patel to be the new Defense secretary’s chief of staff.

The latest report comes just a day after Defense Secretary Mark Esper was terminated via presidential tweet, and earlier Tuesday, a senior official resigned.

Patel was serving as a senior adviser to Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell. Previously, he was an aide to the House Intelligence Committee’s Devin Nunes.

The White House Liaison Office at the Pentagon declined to comment to the Washington Examiner on rumors that Esper’s former chief of staff, Jennifer Stewart, may be the next to leave in what has thus far been a tumultuous week at the Pentagon.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Stewart was still at the Pentagon. The former top Republican staffer on the House Armed Services Committee and top adviser to the chairman of the joint chiefs had served Esper since January.

Patel would serve as the new chief of staff for Miller, who is in his second day on the job at the Pentagon.
