Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) of FL said on Monday that he is planning to enact an executive order preventing local governments and businesses from requiring any time of "vaccine passports".

DeSantis said, 'We are not going to have you provide proof of this just to be able to live your life.'"

These announcements come right behind his signing of a bill  (Bill SB-72) designed to shield business owners from ever being liable for someone else getting infected with COVID in the state.

Said DeSantis:

"We don’t want to be in a situation where people are scared of being sued, just for doing normal things. We worked very early on to look at to see ways that we could provide some certainty for both businesses, and health care providers. This was obviously a top priority for many of us up here. And I think that the Legislature has been able to deliver today."

DeSantis then moved on to the topic of the so-called "vaccine passports," and how he wants his state to have no part whatsoever in them:

"We need the Legislature just to come in and say 'this is not happening in Florida.' Do you want the fox guarding the hen house? Give me a break. This is something that has huge privacy implications."

DeSantis then talked about potentially very real privacy concerns of letting the government and big business have that much control over citizens' personal data:

"It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply participate in normal society."

DeSantis said during the press conference that further details will be made available in coming days.
