More than 1.5 million sign petition blasting Netflix for gay Jesus Christmas movie

More than 1.5 million people have signed a petition demanding Netflix to remove a film that depicts Jesus Christ as gay.

The First Temptation of Christ is the second satirical film about Jesus from the International Emmy-winning comedy group Porta dos Fundos, which translates to “back door.” Their new movie, which is 46 minutes long, is about Jesus returning to his parents’ home for his birthday with his new friend, Orlando. There are hints that Jesus and Orlando are romantically involved.

The film has received immense criticism in Brazil. One Brazilian congressman, Marco Feliciano, who has a history of anti-gay and lesbian comments, expressed his outrage on social media, noting that “Christians and non-Christians have asked me to take action against the irresponsible members of Porta do Fundo.”

The petition on Change.org has more than 1.5 million signatures as of Saturday afternoon. The description on the petition calls for Porta dos Fundos to “be held responsible for the crime of villainous faith,” and it called for a retraction.

In a statement to the New York Daily News, the creators of the show said, “Porta dos Fundos values artistic freedom and humor through satire on the most diverse cultural themes of our society and believes that freedom of expression is an essential construction for a democratic country.”
