The White House is preparing to release to Congress the full whistleblower complaint at the center of House Democrats impeachment inquiry, and it could reach lawmakers by the end of the week.
The “decision and timing could change over the next few days,” but Trump had approved the release of the complaint, according to a Politico report citing a senior administration official.
The whistleblower complaint, according to news reports, says that Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate whether Vice President Joe Biden pressured Ukraine to fire a prosecutor who was investigating an oil company that put Hunter Biden, his son, on its board.
Trump directed the United States to delay $400 million in aid to Ukraine a few days before the call, according to another report. Trump denied that the delayed payment was linked to a potential Biden investigation.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put her support behind an official impeachment inquiry on Tuesday after the number of members backing impeachment proceedings rapidly spiked following reports of the whistleblower complaint.
Trump tweeted Tuesday that he approved the release of the transcript of his call with Zelensky for Wednesday, but Pelosi and other Democrats called on him to release the full whistleblower complaint, in addition to the transcript.
Trump in other tweets Tuesday, called the impeachment move a “witch hunt” and “presidential harassment.”
