Markets react to canceled Trump-Kim Jong Un summit

.

Markets were down slightly after the news on Thursday that President Trump canceled plans for a June 12 summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.59 percent after the announcement, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.3 percent and the Nasdaq was down 0.5 percent.

Trump said in the letter to North Korean dictator that he was canceling the summit because of the “tremendous anger and open hostility” he displayed in a recent statement.

“This missed opportunity is truly a sad moment in history,” Trump wrote. “Some day, I look very much forward to meeting you.”
