President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani insisted he is not receiving special treatment after Attorney General William Barr said the Justice Department is reviewing information about Ukraine from the former New York City mayor.
“Not only am I not getting special treatment, I’ve been getting terrible treatment,” Giuliani told Fox News on Wednesday.
Giuliani has accused former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden of corruption. The Hunter Biden was on the board of a Ukrainian gas company while his father was leading the Obama administration’s efforts to tackle corruption in the country.
Trump and Giuliani pressured Ukraine to investigate the Bidens, which eventually led to Trump’s impeachment on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Trump was acquitted earlier this month by the Senate.
Giuliani’s corruption claims stem from a 2018 video showing the Joe Biden bragging about threatening to hold back $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees if Ukraine did not remove then-Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin from office. Shokin was removed in 2016 amid international pressure and has since claimed he was ousted because he was investigating the gas company Joe Biden’s son worked for and the vice president wanted to protect his son.
“This should have been investigated three years ago. If President Trump had gone on the stage and said, ‘I pressured the president of another country to dismiss a prosecutor,’ there’d be an investigation the next day,” Giuliani said. “In fact, they tried to say President Trump said something like that about two months ago.”
“They are lying and lying and lying,” Giuliani said of the Bidens denying the allegations of wrongdoing. “And the corrupt media just repeats it.”
